WHY Light, fresh and a perfect introduction to fish
The kind people of Hooked, purveyors of sustainably caught fish, have been helping me develop a more adventurous taste for fish. It helps that everything they offer is incredibly fresh and easy to prepare. I’ve visited them a couple times at the farmers’ market at Davisville Park, and as well selling fish here, they also have ready-made eats on offer. Some weeks tacos, other weeks sandwiches.
Their Lake Erie silver bass sandwich was light yet filling, and an ideal dinner on a hot summer evening. Sadly, I got there too late to get an egg bun, which would have perfected the sandwich, large enough to contain all the toppings (the baguette pictured above served its purpose, but things got a bit messy). The slaw and miso mayo were tangy, and the fish, lightly seasoned. The best part is that everything tasted fresh, fresh, fresh. A definite benefit of getting dinner at a farmers’ market.
A great introduction to fish for seafood newbies.
Hooked also has stalls in the Withrow Park and Leslieville farmers’ markets, so pay them a visit if you’re in the hood.
